"By coincidence, two NFSv4 symlink bugs, one introduced in the 3.16 xdr

The 'sysret' fastpath does not correctly restore even all regular
registers, much less any segment registers or reflags values. That is
very much part of why it's faster than 'iret'.
Normally that isn't a problem, because the normal ptrace() interface
catches the process using the signal handler infrastructure, which
always returns with an iret.
However, some paths can get caught using ptrace_event() instead of the
signal path, and for those we need to make sure that we aren't going to
return to user space using 'sysret'. Otherwise the modifications that
may have been done to the register set by the tracer wouldn't
necessarily take effect.
Fix it by forcing IRET path by setting TIF_NOTIFY_RESUME from
arch_ptrace_stop_needed() which is invoked from ptrace_stop().
lz4: add overrun checks to lz4_uncompress_unknownoutputsize()
Jan points out that I forgot to make the needed fixes to the
lz4_uncompress_unknownoutputsize() function to mirror the changes done
in lz4_decompress() with regards to potential pointer overflows.
The only in-kernel user of this function is the zram code, which only
takes data from a valid compressed buffer that it made itself, so it's
not a big issue. But due to external kernel modules using this
function, it's better to be safe here.

Under shmem swapping load, I sometimes hit the VM_BUG_ON_PAGE(!PageLRU)
in isolate_lru_pages() at mm/vmscan.c:1281!
Commit 2457aec63745 ("mm: non-atomically mark page accessed during page
cache allocation where possible") looks like interrupted work-in-progress.
mm/filemap.c's call to init_page_accessed() is fine, but not mm/shmem.c's
- shmem_write_begin() is clearly wrong to use it after shmem_getpage(),
when the page is always visible in radix_tree, and often already on LRU.
Revert change to shmem_write_begin(), and use init_page_accessed() or
mark_page_accessed() appropriately for SGP_WRITE in shmem_getpage_gfp().
SGP_WRITE also covers shmem_symlink(), which did not mark_page_accessed()
before; but since many other filesystems use [__]page_symlink(), which did
and does mark the page accessed, consider this as rectifying an oversight.

There are a couple of seq_files which use the single_open() interface.
This interface requires that the whole output must fit into a single
buffer.
E.g. for /proc/stat allocation failures have been observed because an
order-4 memory allocation failed due to memory fragmentation. In such
situations reading /proc/stat is not possible anymore.
Therefore change the seq_file code to fallback to vmalloc allocations
which will usually result in a couple of order-0 allocations and hence
also work if memory is fragmented.
For reference a call trace where reading from /proc/stat failed:
These two patches are supposed to "fix" failed order-4 memory
allocations which have been observed when reading /proc/stat. The
problem has been observed on s390 as well as on x86.
To address the problem change the seq_file memory allocations to
fallback to use vmalloc, so that allocations also work if memory is
fragmented.
This approach seems to be simpler and less intrusive than changing
/proc/stat to use an interator. Also it "fixes" other users as well,
which use seq_file's single_open() interface.
This patch (of 2):
Use seq_file's single_open_size() to preallocate a buffer that is large
enough to hold the whole output, instead of open coding it. Also
calculate the requested size using the number of online cpus instead of
possible cpus, since the size of the output only depends on the number
of online cpus.

hwpoison: fix the handling path of the victimized page frame that belong to non-LRU
Until now, the kernel has the same policy to handle victimized page
frames that belong to kernel-space(reserved/slab-subsystem) or
non-LRU(unknown page state). In other word, the result of handling
either of these victimized page frames is (IGNORED | FAILED), and the
return value of memory_failure() is -EBUSY.
This patch is to avoid that memory_failure() returns very soon due to
the "true" value of (!PageLRU(p)), and it also ensures that
action_result() can report more precise information("reserved kernel",
"kernel slab", and "unknown page state") instead of "non LRU",
especially for memory errors which are detected by memory-scrubbing.

zram: revalidate disk after capacity change
Alexander reported mkswap on /dev/zram0 is failed if other process is
opening the block device file.
Step is as follows,
0. Reset the unused zram device.
1. Use a program that opens /dev/zram0 with O_RDWR and sleeps
until killed.
2. While that program sleeps, echo the correct value to
/sys/block/zram0/disksize.
3. Verify (e.g. in /proc/partitions) that the disk size is applied
correctly. It is.
4. While that program still sleeps, attempt to mkswap /dev/zram0.
This fails: mkswap: error: swap area needs to be at least 40 KiB
When I investigated, the size get by ioctl(fd, BLKGETSIZE64, xxx) on
mkswap to get a size of blockdev was zero although zram0 has right size by
2.
The reason is zram didn't revalidate disk after changing capacity so that
size of blockdev's inode is not uptodate until all of file is close.
This patch should fix the BUG.

slub: fix off by one in number of slab tests
min_partial means minimum number of slab cached in node partial list.
So, if nr_partial is less than it, we keep newly empty slab on node
partial list rather than freeing it. But if nr_partial is equal or
greater than it, it means that we have enough partial slabs so should
free newly empty slab. Current implementation missed the equal case so
if we set min_partial is 0, then, at least one slab could be cached.

In cases where !CONFIG_HUGETLB_PAGE_SIZE_VARIABLE, which is all

sides of the operator are constants. In cases where pageblock size is
variable, the performance degradation should not be significant anyway
since init_cma_reserved_pageblock() is called only at boot time at most
MAX_CMA_AREAS times which by default is eight.

usb: phy: msm: Do not do runtime pm if the phy is not idle
Use case is when the phy is configured in host mode and a usb device is
attached to board before bootup. On bootup, with the existing code and
runtime pm enabled, the driver would decrement the pm usage count
without checking the current state of the phy. This pm usage count
decrement would trigger the runtime pm which than would abort the
usb enumeration which was in progress. In my case a usb stick gets
detected and then immediatly the driver goes to low power mode which is
not correct.

ARM: 8087/1: ptrace: reload syscall number after secure_computing() check
On the syscall tracing path, we call out to secure_computing() to allow
seccomp to check the syscall number being attempted. As part of this, a
SIGTRAP may be sent to the tracer and the syscall could be re-written by
a subsequent SET_SYSCALL ptrace request. Unfortunately, this new syscall
is ignored by the current code unless TIF_SYSCALL_TRACE is also set on
the current thread.
This patch slightly reworks the enter path of the syscall tracing code
so that we always reload the syscall number from

ARM: 8076/1: mm: add support for HW coherent systems in PL310 cache
When a PL310 cache is used on a system that provides hardware
coherency, the outer cache sync operation is useless, and can be
skipped. Moreover, on some systems, it is harmful as it causes
deadlocks between the Marvell coherency mechanism, the Marvell PCIe
controller and the Cortex-A9.
To avoid this, this commit introduces a new Device Tree property
'arm,io-coherent' for the L2 cache controller node, valid only for the
PL310 cache. It identifies the usage of the PL310 cache in an I/O
coherent configuration. Internally, it makes the driver disable the
outer cache sync operation.
Note that technically speaking, a fully coherent system wouldn't
require any of the other .outer_cache operations. However, in
practice, when booting secondary CPUs, these are not yet coherent, and
therefore a set of cache maintenance operations are necessary at this
point. This explains why we keep the other .outer_cache operations and
only ->sync is disabled.
While in theory any write to a PL310 register could cause the
deadlock, in practice, disabling ->sync is sufficient to workaround
the deadlock, since the other cache maintenance operations are only
used in very specific situations.
Contrary to previous versions of this patch, this new version does not
simply NULL-ify the ->sync member, because the l2c_init_data
structures are now 'const' and therefore cannot be modified, which is
a good thing. Therefore, this patch introduces a separate
l2c_init_data instance, called of_l2c310_coherent_data.

* the scheduler switches to the np_thread
* the np_thread is woken up, it sees that kthread_should_stop() returns

nfsd: fix rare symlink decoding bug
An NFS operation that creates a new symlink includes the symlink data,
which is xdr-encoded as a length followed by the data plus 0 to 3 bytes
of zero-padding as required to reach a 4-byte boundary.
The vfs, on the other hand, wants null-terminated data.
The simple way to handle this would be by copying the data into a newly
allocated buffer with space for the final null.
The current nfsd_symlink code tries to be more clever by skipping that
step in the (likely) case where the byte following the string is already
0.
But that assumes that the byte following the string is ours to look at.
In fact, it might be the first byte of a page that we can't read, or of
some object that another task might modify.
Worse, the NFSv4 code tries to fix the problem by actually writing to
that byte.
In the NFSv2/v3 cases this actually appears to be safe:
- nfs3svc_decode_symlinkargs explicitly null-terminates the data
(after first checking its length and copying it to a new
page).
- NFSv2 limits symlinks to 1k. The buffer holding the rpc
request is always at least a page, and the link data (and
previous fields) have maximum lengths that prevent the request
from reaching the end of a page.
In the NFSv4 case the CREATE op is potentially just one part of a long
compound so can end up on the end of a page if you're unlucky.
The minimal fix here is to copy and null-terminate in the NFSv4 case.
The nfsd_symlink() interface here seems too fragile, though. It should
really either do the copy itself every time or just require a
null-terminated string.

iscsi-target: Avoid rejecting incorrect ITT for Data-Out
This patch changes iscsit_check_dataout_hdr() to dump the incoming
Data-Out payload when the received ITT is not associated with a
WRITE, instead of calling iscsit_reject_cmd() for the non WRITE
ITT descriptor.
This addresses a bug where an initiator sending an Data-Out for
an ITT associated with a READ would end up generating a reject
for the READ, eventually resulting in list corruption.
There is one other possible overrun in the lz4 code as implemented by
Linux at this point in time (which differs from the upstream lz4
codebase, but will get synced at in a future kernel release.) As
pointed out by Don, we also need to check the overflow in the data
itself.
While we are at it, replace the odd error return value with just a
"simple" -1 value as the return value is never used for anything other
than a basic "did this work or not" check.

usb: musb: Ensure that cppi41 timer gets armed on premature DMA TX irq
Some TI chips raise the DMA complete interrupt before the actual
transfer has been completed. The code tries to busy wait for a few
microseconds and if that fails it arms an hrtimer to recheck. So far
so good, but that has the following issue:
CPU 0 CPU1
start_next_transfer(RQ1);
DMA interrupt
if (premature_irq(RQ1))
if (!hrtimer_active(timer))
hrtimer_start(timer);
DMA interrupt
if (premature_irq(RQ2))
if (!hrtimer_active(timer))
hrtimer_start(timer);
timer->state = INACTIVE;
The premature interrupt of request2 on CPU1 does not arm the timer and
therefor the request completion never happens because it checks for
!hrtimer_active(). hrtimer_active() evaluates:
timer->state != HRTIMER_STATE_INACTIVE
which of course evaluates to true in the above case as timer->state is
CALLBACK_RUNNING.
That's clearly documented:
* A timer is active, when it is enqueued into the rbtree or the
* callback function is running or it's in the state of being migrated
* to another cpu.
But that's not what the code wants to check. The code wants to check
whether the timer is queued, i.e. whether its armed and waiting for
expiry.
We have a helper function for this: hrtimer_is_queued(). This
evaluates:
timer->state & HRTIMER_STATE_QUEUED
So in the above case this evaluates to false and therefor forces the
DMA interrupt on CPU1 to call hrtimer_start().
Use hrtimer_is_queued() instead of hrtimer_active() and evrything is
good.

usb: musb: Fix panic upon musb_am335x module removal
At probe time, the musb_am335x driver register its childs by
calling of_platform_populate(), which registers all childs in
the devicetree hierarchy recursively.
On the other side, the driver's remove() function uses of_device_unregister()
to remove each child of musb_am335x's.
However, when musb_dsps is loaded, its devices are attached to the musb_am335x
device as musb_am335x childs. Hence, musb_am335x remove() will attempt to
unregister the devices registered by musb_dsps, which produces a kernel panic.
In other words, the childs in the "struct device" hierarchy are not the same
as the childs in the "devicetree" hierarchy.
Ideally, we should enforce the removal of the devices registered by
musb_am335x *only*, instead of all its child devices. However, because of the
recursive nature of of_platform_populate, this doesn't seem possible.
Therefore, as the only solution at hand, this commit disables musb_am335x
driver removal capability, preventing it from being ever removed. This was
originally suggested by Sebastian Siewior:
Even though usb_functionfs_descs_head structure is now deprecated,
it has been used by some user space tools. Its removel in commit
[ac8dde1: “Add flags to descriptors block”] was an oversight
leading to build breakage for such tools.
Bring it back so that old user space tools can still be build
without problems on newer kernel versions.

In generic_id the long int timestamp is multiplied by 100000 and needs
an explicit cast to u64.
Without that the id in the resulting pstore filename is wrong and
userspace may have problems parsing it, but more importantly files in
pstore can never be deleted and may fill the EFI flash (brick device?).
This happens because when generic pstore code wants to delete a file,
it passes the id to the EFI backend which reinterpretes it and a wrong
variable name is attempted to be deleted. There's no error message but
after remounting pstore, deleted files would reappear.
